If you’ve been following Cannes fashion as avidly as we have over the past week, you’ve likely noticed a few things. Namely, that everyone appears to be wearing black. Or white. Or (wait for it) black and white.
It’s a graphic, sleek and chic look that’s easy for any star to pull off — ease being a must during a week when it’s been pouring every day, so stars have more important things to worry about (like keeping their hair dry) than, say, coordinating a full outfit.

And there’s no denying that everyone has looked fabulous in their dresses. We rounded up five of our favorite black-and-white looks above, including Zoë Saldana‘s Emanuel Ungaro mini, Carey Mulligan’s stark Vionnet gown, Rooney Mara and Jennifer Lawrence both in contrasting Dior dresses and Emma Watson in a lovely elegant sequin bustier with an ivory skirt.
One major surprise: Few stars opted for a pop of color to liven up their looks, à la Saldana’s red heels. In fact, Mulligan’s favorite black satin Brian Atwood “Aida” platform appeared to be the official shoe of the film festival, popping up on Mulligan, Mara and Lawrence within a few days.
So the question is: Do you love this stark trend, or are you missing a major red moment, like Kristen Stewart‘s last year? And who’s doing B&W best?
